George Martin: The Scores

Begun in cooperation with Sir George himself, George Martin: The Scores is the result of unprecedented access to the producer's personal archive of music manuscripts and materials. The multi-volume set presents life-size reproductions of his original handwritten scores, tucked away for safe-keeping by George following their use on iconic recording sessions for The Beatles and others throughout his long and distinguished career.

Original manuscripts for "Yesterday", "A Day in the Life", "Strawberry Fields Forever", "Here Comes the Sun", "Live and Let Die", and many more provide a fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse into the producer's masterful scoring approach and working process. Several of the pieces reveal discarded arrangement ideas that differ notably from the final recordings, charting the evolution of George's vision and offering an intriguing view of what might have been.

Dozens of scores for orchestra, ensemble, and piano are presented, and insightful textual commentary provides a detailed exploration of each piece, accessible even to individuals who do not read music. In addition to the manuscripts themselves, several of the arrangements have been meticulously re-recorded in London's legendary Abbey Road Studio Two. This allows the reader to experience George's arrangements standing alone, revealing instrumental lines that may have been difficult to hear in the released recordings. The individual session files from the re-recording are also included, allowing for closer analysis and re-mixing.

A limited number of copies include signature pages autographed by Sir George specifically for this project shortly before his passing. These exclusive editions are presented with deluxe packaging and will be available on a first-come basis.

After many years in the works, it is indeed an honor to share this project with you. If you wish to be notified when the book is available for order, please sign up for the mailing list below. Thank you.
